Assistant/Associate Professor in Transportation Engineering
The School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science (CEES) within the Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Transportation Engineering.  All areas within transportation engineering will be considered, though candidates with expertise in the following areas are preferred: traffic estimation and control; traffic simulations in real time during extreme events; traffic safety; transportation data analytics; connected & autonomous vehicle operations; electric vehicle charging on roadways while travelling; mobile sensing; cyber dependency of transportation networks; and interdependencies between transportation systems and other infrastructure systems. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers at OU's National Institute for Risk and Resilience (risk.ou.edu) and join a group of interdisciplinary faculty (including nine GCoE faculty) working on an NSF funded project entitled Socially Sustainable Solutions for Water, Carbon, and Infrastructure Resilience in Oklahoma (S3OK). This project aims to develop and test socially sustainable, science-based solutions for complex (“wicked”) problems at the intersection of land use, water availability, and infrastructure in Oklahoma.

GCoE is targeting a 40% increase in faculty over the next five years to accommodate our strong growth in undergraduate engineering (75% increase in enrollment over the last 6 years) and in support of our ambitious plan for strategic research growth (https://www.ou.edu/coe/about). This position is part of the first wave of hires to complement existing faculty and expand into new areas in order to meet the grand challenges of the future. CEES’s 21 faculty offer four degrees: civil engineering, environmental engineering, architectural engineering, and environmental science with a combined enrollment of 425 B.S. students. In 2018, CEES launched two online M.S. programs – one in hydrology and water security and one in civil engineering (with specialty tracks in transportation, structures, and geotechnical) – they are flourishing with an expected January 2021 combined enrollment of 250 students. CEES prides itself on excellence in research and teaching and is noted for its collaborative and collegial culture that has made it one of the top research units in the college.  Faculty have been recognized for their efforts with numerous national and university awards, including nine NSF CAREER Awards (including one NSF PECASE Award) and six David Ross Boyd Professorships, one of the top three university awards.

Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests (no more than 3 pages each), a statement on professional experience and values toward diversity, equity, and inclusion (see below for OU and GCoE’s commitments), and the contact information for five references. Documents should be uploaded to the following site: https://apply.interfolio.com/81743.  Initial screening of applications will begin February 1, 2021; applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  The start date for the position is expected to be August 16, 2021.

OU is committed to achieving a diverse, equitable, and inclusive university community by embracing each person’s unique contributions, background and perspectives. OU recognizes that fostering an inclusive environment for all, with particular attention to the needs of historically marginalized populations, is vital to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of our institutional mission. This enhances the OU experience for all students, faculty and staff and for the communities we engage. The GCoE holds strong the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We seek candidates who contribute to fostering an inclusive culture in all aspects of faculty responsibility, including within the classroom, the academic community, and within their professional commitments.
